Wolwedans Lodge & Camp, Namib, Namibia

Located in the heart of NamibRand Nature Reserve in southern Namibia, the Wolwedans Lodge and Camps portfolio of timeless and elegant safari camps provides the perfect base from which to embark on exciting and interpretative safari activities or simply relax and enjoy the grandeur of the pro-Namib landscape. Wolwedans is an incredibly peaceful place defined by dramatic red sand dunes sitting beneath vast open skies.  The main objective of NamibRand Nature Reserve is the conservation of this beautiful land on a self-sustainable basis. The Wolwedans Lodge and Camps exude old world charm and none of the creature comforts are missing: crisp white sheets, warm down duvets for those chilly desert nights and solar-heated hot showers after a long drive in the great beyond. Each lodge or operation on the Reserve is limited to 20 beds each. This strict code of ethics assures that this wilderness paradise accommodates only a limited number of guests at a time. Windhoek Airport (440km) is the closest international airport. From here you can take a light aircraft flight to Wolwedans’ private airstrip near the camp. You will be met at the airstrip and transfered to camp, a 15-minute drive. Alternatively, its a 6 hours drive from Windhoek to Wolwedans.

Facilities & Activities:
Scenic drives and/or flights and nature walks with resident field guides reveal the fascinating wonders of the NamibRand Nature Reserve as do picnics in the wild, sundowners on the dunes and dinners by candlelight. Activities are many and can be enjoyed on foot, by car, or from the air. The main building also features 2 cosy lounges (1 with a fireplace), a number of sundowner decks, a fireplace, tea deck, a library, wine cellar, two dining rooms and an outdoor pool. A special experience offered at the lodge is a hot-air balloon safari across the desert plains in admiration of the arid landscapes and distinctive dunes.

Suites & Villas:
For your home at Wolwedans you have the choice of Dunes Lodge (18 beds) and Mountain View Suite (2 beds), Wolwedans Dune Camp (12 beds), the secluded Private Camp (6 beds, 3 en-suite rooms), and Boulders Safari Camp nestling into the grandeur of massive granite rocks (8 beds). Accommodation is in 9 spacious chalets. Each has it’s own en-suite bathroom. Each camp has been carefully sited and flaunts its own distinctive backdrop of awe-inspiring desert scenery. All camps were constructed using poles, elevated wooden decks and roll-up canvas walls and are driven solely by solar power – ensuring a very light environmental footprint on the pristine desert ecology. Let Wolwedans weave its magic around you – leaving you with a deepened appreciation for the natural world we live in.

Dining:
Wolwedans has an excellent reputation for serving great meals and we are more than happy to indulge any meal preferences with our innovative, wholesome and sophisticated ‘bush-cuisine’. Meals are included and served in the 2 dining rooms. Dinners, of course, are a lavish, but unpretentious affair. They always exude a sense of occasion with elegant table settings, candlelight and exuberant menu announcements in the local Nama language. Prepared lovingly with homegrown organic fresh produce and paired with excellent local and South African wines. Unique culinary delights are served in remote locations in the infinite desert.
