Enveloped by lagoons and coral reefs as well as dense jungle canopy and mangroves, Bawah Reserve is a private island experience like no other. Bawah offers the true meaning of all-inclusive luxury, by being the only retreat in Asia to include all spa treatments, and guest experiences. Only accessible by seaplane, Bawah is a group of six tropical islands that feature 35 beautifully designed suites and bungalows. Combining luxury design and an back-to-nature concept, it is an eco-resort that sit in the Anambas Islands 160 nautical miles (300km) northeast of Singapore between Malaysia and Borneo.
Facilities & Activities:
Bawah Reserve’s waters and terrain allow guests to enjoy various marine-based activities and treks through the jungle. There are a plethora of fun activities at Bawah Reserve from paddle boarding, diving, and plenty of non-motorised water sports including kayaking. Explore the many beaches, hike around the different islands, making your way along the wooden walkways over the azure blue lagoons. Within the resort, laze by the pool or head to the spa for a pampering. In the evenings there’s even an open air cinema to enjoy a romantic evening watching a film under the stars. Please note the resort only accept Indonesian Rupiahs and all major credit cards. No money changing facilities at the resort. WiFi does exist in your room (not in public areas) but has limited band length.
Rooms & Suites:
There are just 35 private suites and villas at Bawah Reserve. The suites themselves are elegant yet understated in a true Robinson Crusoe style. Each complete with their own balcony. Each suite consists of an outdoor living room or veranda leading into a bedroom. The spacious outdoor veranda has a 5-metre daybed seating bench as well as safari chairs and table. The bedroom can be opened or sealed as per guest wishes, a central bed with mosquito netting and ceiling fan presides in centre of the room, an AC unit is incorporated in the bed-head. The Bathroom has a walk-in shower, stand-alone “explorers copper bathtub”, dual sinks, dressing area and separate WC. Have all been built using bamboo and canvas tented-like material and are extremely spacious. However, it is the overwater bungalows that really stand out; perfect for couples wanting privacy and suspended over the shallow coral reef.
Dining:
Food is also a big part of the Bawah experience and there are plenty of dining options to enjoy. There are two main restaurants at Bawah Reserve, The Boat House Bar & Restaurant and The Treetop Club House Restaurant. Lighter snacks and drinks can be enjoyed at The Grouper Beach and Pool Bar. Late night cocktail can be enjoyed at The Wallace Library and Jules Verne Lookout Bar. Private dining experiences can also be organised as there are numerous places for picnics and al fresco dining around the resort.
